2017 Great Britain 10 Pound 5-oz Silver Queen's Beasts The Lion NGC PF70UCAM First Releases
This Silver Lion Roars as the First of the Queen's Beasts!
Astute collectors always seek out the highest quality for their collections. For proof coins, the top grade is perfect Proof-70 Ultra Cameo First Releases (PF70 UC FR). Now you can obtain just such a proof right here! This 2017 Five Ounce Silver Queen's Beasts Lion of England Proof is graded and encapsulated in a protective acrylic holder by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
This Lion of England Proof is the first in a 10-coin series honoring Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II by gathering the British Monarchy's Heraldic Beasts, collected over 1,000 years. These Beasts originally represented different clans, families and areas of the British Isles. As the British Monarchy's control over the island increased, more of these representative beasts were accumulated. In 1953, a set of 10 sculptures was produced to honor Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. The designs of the coins in this new series are inspired by these sculptures.
The first of the series is the Lion of England, roaring as he protects the Royal Coat of Arms. A stately portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is displayed on the obverse along with the Proof's £10 (ten pound) denomination. Each is struck in five ounces of 99.9% pure silver and comes with a Royal Mint certificate of authenticity.
Only 2,500 of these proofs were produced. And, as a major distributor for The Royal Mint, we were awarded the entire First Releases mintage. As the first coins struck from new dies, many collectors believe these show the sharpest images and deepest mirrored surfaces of the series. This is particularly true with proof coins since they are struck multiple times under increased pressure, causing the dies to wear out much faster that those used for non-proof strikes.
