London’s Iconic Big Ben is the First Theme in a New Landmark Coin Series

In almost every Hollywood film depicting London at night, there’s a scene with the fog rolling in over the city skyline while Big Ben’s iron bell stoically tolls the hour. Nothing could be more iconic of Great Britain and why the British Royal Mint chose the beloved clock tower as the first theme in its Landmarks of Britain coin series.

Struck in one ounce of 99.9% silver, the Big Ben coin is a masterpiece that’s available as either a proof coin or as a reverse proof version. Can’t decide which you’d prefer? Don’t worry – we’ve combined BOTH versions in one epic set!

The design is incredible. It’s as if you were taking a walking tour of London and found yourself at the base of Big Ben and looked up to see the impressive structure with clouds passing overhead. While the recognizable face of Big Ben at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament is well known, the clock tower’s official name is less familiar. Big Ben’s real name is the Elizabeth Tower and it’s actually the great bell inside that bears the famous nickname. The original bell was cast in 1856 but was soon cracked. A new bell was cast in 1858 only to meet the same fate. Finally a lighter hammer was used on the damaged bell, only striking in a different spot, thus giving us the distinctive sound we know today.

Your 2017 Landmarks of Great Britain – Big Ben One-Ounce Silver Two-Coin Set will come beautifully packaged in a large, Royal Mint-branded clamshell black box and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.  The clock is ticking so you had better add this set to your cart today!
