These coins are from the Mickey Through the Ages series. The designs in this series capture some of Mickey Mouse’s most memorable roles over the years.

Struck by the New Zealand Mint, this set includes 1 colorized Silver Proof and 1 Gold Proof. Mintage of each was limited. The limit for the Silver Proof was 10,000 pieces and the limit for the Gold Proof was 500 pieces. Both the Gold and Silver Proofs weigh 1 troy oz. each. The Gold coin has a fineness of .9999 and the Silver Proof has a fineness of .999.

Classic Moment from Fantasia

The coins in this set feature the Fantasia design. This was added in 2017. It could be argued that Mickey’s role as the sorcerer’s apprentice is perhaps his most well-known role of all-time. This role dates back to 1940 when Fantasia was running as a short series. Millions of people around the world instantly recognize Mickey in the hat and robe he wore as the sorcerer’s apprentice.

The work of Ian Rank-Broadley is displayed on the obverse of each Proof. This effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is highly detailed. The date and face value are also here.

The reverse of each shows Mickey as he was commanding a broom to carry water. Taken directly from the film, this design truly captures a classic Disney moment. Both of the Proofs in this set have been graded by NGC, the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Each received the grade of Proof 70 and the Ultra Cameo designation. While they are completely flawless and display an impressive level of visual contrast, that’s not what really makes this set special. These coins are certified as being among the First 50 Struck. This is a rare designation and the appeal is easy to see. The mintage limit for both of these Proofs was low, and you can own some of the very first ones that were struck by the New Zealand Mint.
