The Pristine Beauty of the Ozark Riverways, Captured Forever!

Make your way to the southern part of Missouri and you'll find yourself right in the middle of the rolling mountains, spacious plateaus and dense forests collectively known as the Ozarks. And carving its way through this picturesque beauty are the pristine waters of the Current and Jack Fork Rivers -- of which 134 miles make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Preserved since 1964 as the first federally protected river system, these waters flow free and wild, fed by springs and unencumbered by modern trappings. The Ozark Riverways are an outdoor playground, with plenty of floating, fishing and swimming in its rivers, hiking in its forests and exploring its natural wonders and over 100 structures.

The Center of Activity, Captured in Time!

Notice we said that the Ozark Riverways weren't interrupted by the dams and systems of today. However, back in the early 20th century, communities found ingenious ways to harness the power of the water and springs without radically transforming the landscape. For a perfect example, you don't need to go any further than Alley Spring, home to the Alley Mill. Built in 1894, the mill ingeniously used submerged turbines (instead of a water wheel) to power the grinding of grain. The result helped to turn the area into a community center and later a tourist destination. Today, the Alley Mill is a symbol of a simpler past, where the beauty of nature and human progress (for the most part) peacefully coexisted.

Natural Wonders and Precious Metal Combine for a Perfect Collection Addition!

With an amazing amount of National Park Service sites in Missouri, you could see how difficult it can be to choose just one for the popular America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. However, looking at the evocative scene of the Alley Mill designed by Ron Sanders and sculpted by Renata Gordon, there's no doubt that the 2017 Ozark National Scenic Riverways Quarter is a winner! Now, you can bring home a five ounce silver collector edition of this coin. Struck in a weighty five ounces of 99.9% pure silver by the Philadelphia Mint, each coin has a massive diameter of three inches and thickness of over four millimeters, but still has a legal tender value of 25 cents! One side features John Flanagan’s restored 1932 portrait of George Washington, while the other side depicts the Alley Mill. Incused edge lettering confirms that your coin is, indeed, ".999 fine silver 5.0 ounce."

Your 2017 5-oz Silver Ozark Riverways Coin will arrive to you in Specimen condition, exactly as it left the Philadelphia Mint, with a gorgeous matte finish and "P" mintmark. Combine the historical and environmental significance of the Ozark Riverways along with the captivating artwork and attractive size of this coin and you can see why we don’t think this will available for very long. Add one to your cart now before they float away for good!
