2017 St. Helena 25 Pence Silver Testern Proof
After 416 Years, the Testern Returns!
Originally struck in 1600 under Queen Elizabeth I, the testern was the first British coin minted for trade outside of Britain. Carried by representatives of the East India Company, the queen wanted them to usurp Spanish reales and escudos, which were the most widely recognized international trade coins. Due to its unique design featuring a heavy castle gate, the coin was casually referred to as "Portcullis Money."
Incredibly valuable, original-issue 8 testerns could run you as much as $25,000. But thanks to this 2017 release from St. Helena, you can own a 25 pence legal-tender testern struck in 26.7 grams of 99.9% fine silver. It features the original portcullis design as well as an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
Don’t miss out on this historic reintroduction 416 years later!
