2018 China 30 Gram Silver Panda NGC MS69 First Day Of Issue - Black

Celebrating the Panda’s 35th Anniversary!

For three and a half decades, Chinese Panda coins have served as celebrations of Chinese history and culture. Unlike many other bullion coins, like the American Eagles and Austrian Philharmonics, the Panda designs change every year, adding to their desirability and collectability. Each year brings a new look at the recognizable and adorable creature. This one in particular offers a much closer look at the animal’s face than most other designs. Rather than including the full body of a panda or multiple pandas, designer Cheng Chao instead shows a closeup of one adult as it prepares to have a snack of its favorite food, bamboo leaves.

The Panda coin has undergone a change over the past few years. Prior to 2016, Pandas, like other coins, were issued in imperial units. In 2016, though, the Panda was issued in metric units, which changed the 1-oz version to 30-g, which is slightly smaller. It remains to be seen whether other governments will follow suit and change their coins to metric weights rather than imperial ones, but for now Chinese coins stand alone as the only ones issued in grams rather than ounces. This adds even more appeal to this already popular series.

  • MARKING A LANDMARK FOR THE SILVER PANDA – This Silver Panda marks the 35th anniversary of the Silver Panda, which debuted in 1983. The unique design differs from others in the series in that it offers a closeup look rather than a full bodied one.

  • CHINA LEGAL TENDER – Each 30-g Panda has a nominal face value of 10 Yuan legal tender in the People’s Republic of China. The world’s largest country has emerged as an economic and military superpower over the past couple of decades and opened its doors to the world when it hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics.

  • CERTIFIED AS NEARLY FLAWLESS FDI -- Your coin will be graded Mint State-69 (MS69) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), a distinction that means your almost-flawless coin will showcase an impressive full strike and indistinguishable imperfections -- well above and beyond the quality of the vast majority of coins in the series. This coin is part of an exclusive population of just 10,000 pieces that will ever be certified as First Day of Issue by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

  • SIGNED CHENG CHAO PANDA LABEL WITH BLACK CORE – Grading information for this coin is provided on an exclusive NGC label that bears a panda image. Each label was signed by the man who designed the coin, Cheng Chao, who has also designed several other significant pieces, including four previous bullion Pandas. The coin is set in a black core.

The Silver Panda is an extremely popular coin among collectors thanks in large part to the fact that its design changes every year. The beautiful images and high-quality minting only add to their appeal. Mix in the fact that they are currently the only bullion piece issued in grams rather than ounces and it is hard to see a modern collection as complete without them. This particular Panda is part of an exclusive group of just 10,000 that will earn NGC’s First Day of Issue certification. With so few coins earning this distinction, your chance to own one will not last long, so order now at GovMint.com!
