2018 Great Britain 10 Pence 6.5 Gram Silver Great British Hunt H - House of Parliament Proof
“H” is for Houses of Parliament – The Latest Silver Proof in the Great British Coin Hunt Series!
Inspired by the success of America’s 50 State Quarters Program, the British Royal Mint launched its own coin project. The theme is the “Great British Coin Hunt” and features a 26-coin set that covers everything British from A to Z. Launched in March of 2018, the demand for these coins was so intense that it crashed the Royal Mint’s web site on the very first day of release!
When you feast your eyes on the 26 designs you’ll understand why British collectors went wild. There is a different design for every letter of the alphabet on the nation’s 10-pence coins. At 24.5 mm in diameter, the 10-pence coin is slightly larger than a U.S. quarter and they circulate widely throughout the United Kingdom. The goal of the series is for people to “hunt” through their pocket change and discover al the unique designs.
In addition to the circulating coinage, the Royal Mint is also issuing a limited edition of proofs struck in British sterling silver. We’re in the process of securing as many of the silver proofs as we can and making them available to GovMint customers. The coin available here is “H” for Houses of Parliament. The reverse of the coin features a gateway to the Houses of Parliament. The gateways were built wide enough to allow the king or queen’s coach to drive through for State Openings of Parliament. An “H” floats above the gate.
Great Britain’s Houses of Parliament have been a feature of the Thames River skyline for nearly 300 years. The original Houses of Parliament date back to the first half of the 11th century. Of the entire architectural complex, the most recognized is the Clock Tower which houses Big Ben. The southern tower – Victoria Tower – is 323 feet high and was the tallest stone square tower in the world when it was completed in 1860.
Fans of London history as well as coin collectors are going crazy for this coin. But you don’t have to travel to Great Britain to get one and you don’t need to buy a ticket for a guided walking tour of London. Just add it to your cart!
- INCREDIBLE NEW SERIES – The Great British Coin Hunt series features 26 designs on 10-pence coins. In 2017, the British Royal Mint conducted a survey to discover what makes the country quintessentially British. They assigned a letter for a particular aspect of British society from “A” to “Z.” The results for each letter were chosen for the design of each coin released in 2018.
