Still, it was classified as a “successful failure” because of the ingenuity of both the crew in space and the scientists and technicians at NASA’s Mission Control to safely bring astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise back home.

Paid for by the crews and available for purchase only by NASA astronauts and members of the Astronaut Flight Office (AFO) support crew, these sterling silver mementos usually had very limited mintages of only 100 to 450 medals per mission.
