The Final Year Of The Gold Eagle As We Know It!

Since the series began in 1986, the American Gold Eagle has displayed the same inspiring designs: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-figure of Lady Liberty taken from the classic $20 Gold Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle originally released in 1907, and the touching “Family of Eagles” design by Miley Tucker-Frost of a male eagle carrying an olive branch back to its nest, mate and hatchlings. That’s because the United States has announced that for the first time in the series’ history, a brand-new reverse design will be introduced in 2021! According to Tucker-Frost, whose name was Miley Busiek at the time the American Eagle bullion coins first appeared in late 1986, having her design appear on the nation’s gold $5 coin has been a tremendous honor, one that after more than three decades may be retired for good.
