2020 Platinum Eagle Proof Concludes U.S. Mint’s “Preamble” Series

In 2018, the U.S. Mint began a new Platinum Eagle series honoring the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Following the success off 2018’s “Life” and 2019’s “Liberty,” 2020 arrives with the incredible “Pursuit of Happiness” release to close out this amazing series.

Fabulously struck by the West Point Mint in one ounce of highly pure 99.95% platinum, this $100 legal-tender U.S. coin shows a vibrant agricultural scene that depicts Lady Liberty harvesting the fruits of her labors while a young girl playfully chases a butterfly by her side. Engraved just to left of Liberty is the word “Happiness” in a script that mimics the writing style used on the original Declaration of Independence document written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776.

As with the previous two years in the series, the awe-inspiring design for the 2020 coin was created by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Justin Kunz. The design is even more magnificent thanks to its dazzling proof finish. That means each coin was expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields. Plus, each proof will come in its original packaging from the mint consisting of a black velvet satin-lined presentation case along with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Just 13,000 of these coins were released by the U.S. Mint on January 30, 2020 with a limit of only one coin per household. The limited edition was far less than expected – especially since the mint released 20,000 Platinum Proofs in 2018 and 15,000 in 2019.
