2021 Brilliant Uncirculated Gold Maple Leafs

2021 is the 43rd year of issue for the world-famous Gold Maple Leaf series from the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM). The reverse design on this series has changed little since introduction. The image is the timeless Canadian Maple Leaf, a symbol of peace and tolerance since it was adopted in 1965. The obverse design pays homage to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait was designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt and is used exclusively on Canadian coinage.

Gold Maple Leaf Series Background

The Gold Maple series was the second gold bullion coin struck for private ownership The South African Gold Krugerrand was introduced a decade before and dominated the 1 oz gold coin space for a decade. The forward-thinking RCM realized that in order to compete effectively they needed to innovate.

The series was originally struck in .999 pure gold. Beginning in 1982 the series was struck in a variety of fractional sizes including 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 oz.  from .9999 fine gold. They are among the purest standard gold bullion issues in the world.
