2021 5-oz Silver Apollo 14 Robbins Medal 50th Anniversary Commemorative NGC Gem Unc
Apollo 14 Robbins Medals
Apollo 14 was the eighth manned Apollo mission, and the third to land on the Moon. Originally planned for 1970, it was postponed after the previous mission, Apollo 13, failed to land. The operation’s most famous moment took place when Mission Commander Alan Shepard took one-handed swings at two golf balls on the lunar surface. These 50th anniversary commemoratives were made using scans from an authentic Apollo 14 Robbins Medal and feature the same design as the original, along with dual dates of 1971 and 2021 and each commemorative’s weight and fineness.
Design Features Apollo 14 Mission Insignia
Struck in five ounces of highly pure 99.9% fine silver, this oval-shaped commemorative features the Apollo 14 mission insignia — an Astronaut Pin (given to astronauts upon completion of their first flight) soaring from the Earth to the Moon, as well as the last names of the Apollo 14 Astronauts, Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell and Stuart Roosa. What’s more, this design has been struck in incredible High Relief with deep rich detail that’s seems to come alive in your hands! To make the design even more vivid, each medal has been treated with a special antiquing process with a layer made from authentic space-flown material. These pieces aren’t just tributes to man’s quest to explore the cosmos but are made from material that has actually been in outer space!
