LOOK! Jody Clark Design Celebrates the Coronation of King Charles III featuring St. Edwards Crown!
This new coin honors the coronation of King Charles III, which just took place at Westminster Abbey—the first coronation of a British Monarch in nearly 70 years. Charles III ascended to the throne following the passing of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. This is the FIRST Jody Clark rendition of King Charles III wearing St. Edwards Crown. It’s also the final release in a trilogy from the Central Bank of Malta, following the releases of the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial, and the King Charles III Ascension coins.
What’s the Significance of St. Edwards Crown?
St. Edward's Crown, itself a stunning work of art, is one of the most significant symbols of the British monarchy, symbolizing power, history, tradition and authority over the realm. During the Coronation ceremony, the crown is placed on the monarch's head as a symbol of the ascension to the throne, and the duty to serve the people. The Crown has a rich history dating back to 1661, and it has been used in many of the most important moments in British history, including the coronations of kings and queens, royal weddings, and other ceremonial occasions—and for the coronation of King Charles III.
In the Capable Hands of Jody Clark
Jody Clark joined the British Royal Mint as an engraver in 2012, and has designed several renowned, career-defining commemorative pieces including the 2014 Britannia design, the Queen’s Beasts series and the fifth, and final, definitive Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II featured on British coinage since 2015. Jody, currently the Head of Design at the Commonwealth Mint where these stunning coins were struck, designed this portrait of King Charles III exclusively for this program.
A Design Worthy of the New King
Clark’s portrait on the reverse of these coins features King Charles III wearing St. Edwards Crown and traditionally facing left, opposite of Queen Elizabeth II’s official portraits, staying true to the tradition set by James II, where each monarch’s portrait faces the opposite direction of the previous monarch. Around the portrait is the legend “Coronation of King Charles III” along with the date May 6th, 2023—the date of the Coronation ceremony.
The obverse of these coins features the Bank of Malta Coat of Arms, featuring two supporting Knights representing confidence and strength, the two virtues incorporated in the Bank of Malta’s motto.
Proofs Offer Better Quality and a Higher Degree of Scarcity
Proofs, like these, are struck to a much higher standard of beauty, quality, and craftsmanship than circulated and uncirculated coins. Proof planchets (blanks) are specially treated, hand-polished, and cleaned to ensure high-quality strikes, then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies, and struck at least twice, unlike regular coins which are struck only once. The extra strikes give proofs a glamorous shine and make intricate, razor-sharp details of the design pop against polished, mirror-like fields. While regular coins are struck on high-speed presses by the thousands, proofs are individually struck by highly skilled artisans focused on creating masterpieces. Collectors love proofs not only because they’re the best quality, but also because of their relative scarcity since proof mintages are typically only a fraction as large as non-proof coins.
Struck in 99.99% Pure Gold and 99.9% Fine Silver
You have your choice of coins struck in high-purity 99.99% pure gold in five-ounce, two-ounce and one-ounce sizes (€100, €50 and €25 Malta legal tender values respectively) and 99.9% fine silver in a two-ounce size (€3 legal tender).
Certified Absolutely Perfect, with Special Designations
Collectors seek out the best of the best for their collections, and that’s what you have here. You can secure these King Charles III Coronation Proofs certified by NGC as in flawless Proof-70 (PF70) condition. Coins are graded on a 70-point scale, with a top 70 grade representing perfection, even under magnification.
In addition to being flawless, your coins will arrive NGC-certified with a First Day of Issue (FDI) designation—which means these coins have been received for grading on or before the first day of release from the mint. First Day of Issue designations are sought-after because there are so few of them compared to the overall population.
NGC Labels Hand-Signed by Jody Clark
Additionally, each coin will be encapsulated by NGC with exclusive Jody Clark hand-signed signature labels.
Extremely Limited Availability
Authorized worldwide mintages for each of these Gold and Silver King Charles III Proofs are very limited.
