A Historic Collaboration Between Chief Engravers of Two of the World’s Largest and Oldest Mints

The United States and the United Kingdom have long shared a close relationship, based on common values and ideals. In this project, these two historic Mints have come together in a groundbreaking creative partnership, featuring the talent and skills of each mint’s Chief Engraver to produce a single design that features both Britannia and Liberty. The United States Mint Chief Engraver, Joseph F. Menna, and The Royal Mint Chief Engraver, Gordon Summers, have created a stunning design, celebrating the harmony of the figures while giving each equal prominence in the design.

Spectacular Britannia and Liberty Design

The collaborative design highlights Britannia and Liberty, two historical themes featured on many coins over the years, but never together on one unified design. American Liberty has appeared on U.S. coinage since the early years of the Nation, and represents the American cornerstone value that is so important to Americans. Britannia, a staple on British coinage since the late 1600s, has long been the national personification of Britain, and has come to be a symbol of national pride and unity. Their appearance identifies each figure—Liberty carries a torch and is adorned with stars, while Britannia wields a trident and wears a Corinthian helmet. 

The obverse, by designer Martin Jennings, features the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, personally approved by the King.

Certified Flawless PF70 UC and Nearly Flawless PF69 UC and First Releases by NGC

Proofs and coins are graded on a 70-point scale, with a grade of 70 representing absolute perfection, even under magnification. There is no higher grade, and that’s what you have here. These 2024 Britannia & Liberty Proofs have been certified as either perfect Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70 UC) or nearly perfect Proof-69 (PF69 UC) by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), one of the top coin-grading services in the world. The Ultra Cameo (UC) designation signifies these coins possess an intense frosted finish on both sides of the coin, with highly polished fields accenting the raised elements. 

Each Proof also carries a First Releases (FR) designation—which means these select coins were submitted to grading within 30 days of their official release from the Mint.

Extremely Low Worldwide Mintages 

These 2024 Britannia & Liberty Proofs have highly limited worldwide mintages—just 8 of the kilo gold, just 810 of the one-ounce gold, just 1,510 of the two-ounce silver, and just 12,560 of the one-ounce silver coins were authorized. All the coins here are in perfect PF70 UC or nearly perfect PF69 UC condition and designated as First Releases (FR).
