In fact, many of these original coins were destroyed over the years due to silver meltdowns, making them extremely rare today. Obverse: The obverse of the coin showcases the stunning profile of Liberty, surrounded by stars that represent the original states. This modern rendition pays homage to the original artist, Robert Scot, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1793 to 1823.
