Superman Stars As The First Release In New Comic Art Series

Forged in the crucible of justice, comic book superheroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman embody the enduring American ideals of courage, compassion, and unwavering moral resolve. Standing tall against tyranny, each is a mythic figure born of struggle, shaped by virtue, and driven to protect the powerless. Now those immortal characters are part of the exciting new Comic Art Coin and Medal Series from the United States Mint that celebrates comics as a uniquely American art form. The first release in the series is none other than Superman, the unabashed defender of truth, justice, and the American way!

Struck In Highly Pure 99.9% Silver

The timing could not be better for this release as it coincided with the box office success of 2025's Superman written and directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as The Man of Steel. Here you can secure the one-ounce medal struck in highly pure 99.9% fine silver that features an image designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna. The impressive portrait shows Superman in full costume flying over his family's farm. The reverse image was designed by Mint Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian and shows Clark Kent as a young man on the family farm before he became Superman while his father, Pa Kent, tinkers on a truck in the background.

About Joseph Menna, The U.S. Mint's 13th Chief Engraver

Menna, a former DC Comics artist who created several statues, action figures, and busts for DC Collectibles, said he is a lifelong comic book fan, adding that the Superman coins and medals "represents the strength we have in all of us, that we can all be Super Heroes." Menna was named the U.S. Mint's 13th Chief Engraver in 2019 and has received multiple Krause Publications' Coin of the Year awards. He is recognized as a pioneering digital sculptor and designed and sculpted the largest statue in world history, The Statue of Unity in Gujarat, India.

The Origin Of Superman

Superman first appeared in the pages of Action Comics #1 published on June 30, 1938. The 10-cent magazine spawned a new genre of comic books: the superhero. The "Man of Steel" was the creation of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and instantly captured the attention of kids everywhere with his ability to run faster than a speeding bullet, and ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Superman was born on the dying planet Krypton. As a baby he was sent to Earth by his parents in a spaceship just before the planet exploded. His ship crash-landed in a Kansas cornfield where he was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent who raised the infant as their son Clark. Thanks to his super Kryptonian powers, Clark was destined to become the Earth's greatest hero–Superman, the man who never fails to save the day!
