2025 Silver Eagle Honors 250 Years Of The U.S. Army With Special Privy Mark
If not for the United States Army, where would we be? Formally established by the Second Continental Congress as the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, it's actually been around longer than the country it defends! Now, for the first time in the American Silver Eagle series, a privy mark appears on a Type 2 Proof coin–struck to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army. This historic release is the first in a three-coin military tribute series from the U.S. Mint. The privy mark is a modified seal of the U.S. Army and appears just to the right of Lady Liberty above the "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscription.
An Intersection Of Military History And Modern Numismatic Innovation
Each coin was beautifully struck by the West Point Mint in a full Troy ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver and features the "W" mintmark. Like every Silver Eagle struck since the coin's inception in 1986, the obverse features Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty design. The reverse display Emily Damstra's Landing Eagle design that first appeared in 2021, replacing John Mercanti's "Heraldic Eagle" design that had appeared from 1986 to 2021. To differentiate between the two, the 1986–2021 Heraldic Eagles were designated as Type 1 coins while the Landing Eagle design that has appeared since 2021 are designated as Type 2 coins.
Flawless Signed Proofs From The First Issued
Not only do these coins come in gorgeous proof condition with beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, but each one available here has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition, a distinction that means these perfectly-graded proofs have ZERO imperfections–showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has designated that these special privy-marked Silver Eagles are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, meaning they were purchased within one day of the first day they were made available for sale and were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within one week of the release date along with documentation that demonstrates the date when they were purchased. Each will also come sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder with a black display core and encapsulated with a label personally signed by GOVMINT Ambassador David J. Ryder. The former 34th and 39th Director of the U.S. Mint who served from 1992 to 1993 and from 2018 to 2021, Ryder was named by Coin World as one of its "Most Influential People in Numismatics."
