The San Francisco Mint played a defining role in the launch of the Silver Eagle series, striking both the first Uncirculated (BU) and Proof coins in 1986. Nearly four decades later, this facility is once again making history—producing a Silver Eagle with a privy mark for the very first time. Adding to the significance, these coins feature the signature of John Mercanti, the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver who created the original Silver Eagle reverse used from 1986 to 2021. Collectors now have the rare opportunity to secure a coin that unites the Mint where the series began with the engraver who shaped its legacy for 35 years.
