The Type 2 Gold Eagles, which features the “Eagle Portrait” reverse design created by graphic artist Jennie Norris, portraying a realistic, close-up profile of a bald eagle that captures the intricate details of its plumage and its steely gaze. The obverse on these stunning, eye-appealing coins remains the iconic design featuring the full figure Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) has graded each of these coins as perfect Mint State-70 (MS70) condition and designated them as First Day of Issue (FDI), which means they were purchased within one day of the U.S. Mint’s issue date, and submitted to NGC within seven days of that date. Coins with FDI designations are in-demand because they are well-struck using fresher dies, and because that designation narrows the population even more.
