The China Mint’s Panda coin series was first released in 1982 in gold and 1983 in silver, and in the decades since has become one of the numismatic collector’s most popular purchases. Pandas are back in 2026 with another one-year-only design depicting the beloved continuing story of a cub growing into an adult bear, a series-within-a-series now in its eighth year.

SILVER PANDAS AT HISTORICALLY SCARCE LEVEL OF AVAILABILITY
2026 is also different for another reason. For the first time in more than three decades, the China mint has reduced its production of Silver Pandas in 2026 by 50 percent: from 10 million to five million. This is likely due to contributing factors such as tariffs, increases in precious metal pricing, and other economic issues between China and the U.S. As a result, 2026 Pandas will be scarcer than earlier releasesprevious years.

Coins struck at more than one mint, such as the 2026 Silver Pandas, allow knowledgeable collectors to identify a coin’s scarcity relative to similar issues by the special marks that minters have used since ancient times. But with one exception, mint marks have not been used for Chinese Pandas very often, leading to “frustrated collectors,” according to Peter Anthony, author of the Gold and Silver Panda Coin Buying Guide.

The 2026 Silver Panda’s obverse depicts the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests from the Temple of Heaven, the famed 15th-century imperial religious complex near Beijing. The Hall is encircled by “People’s Republic of China” in Mandarin and the year 2026.
On the reverse, a pair of pandas cuddle with warm familiarity against a backdrop of their beloved bamboo, along with the coin’s denomination, metal content, and weight and purity. This marks year eight of 10 of the China Mint’s series providing eager collectors with the gradual story of a Panda developing year-by-year from a cub to a full-grown bear.

THE SIGNATURE OF NUMISATIC GREATNESS
Each GOVMINT 30-Gram Silver Panda BU is NGC graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) and comes with the authentic handwritten signature of Peter Gu, former Director of the Shanghai Mint and the Shenyang Mint. Peter Gu is an eminent figure in international numismatics and is responsible for many of the renowned innovations associated with Chinese coin minting.

SPECIAL DESIGNATIONS/LEGAL TENDER
Each Panda has been certified by NGC as a First Release (FR) specimen, meaning each was received by NGC within 30 days of the mint’s official release date and rated graded MS70 (the highest possible). Each is also legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
