After roughly 750,000 coins were struck, public outcry that eagles have only 7 tail feathers pushed the Mint to change the design. In order to keep the presses rolling, the next Morgans minted featured a 7 Tail Feathers design struck over the 8 Tail Feathers design. ­Then, when the preparation of new dies was completed, the 7 Tail Feathers variety was struck resulting in not one, not two, but THREE unique collector variations!
