Great Britain's Royal Mint introduced its premier Gold Britannia bullion series in 1987 and followed it up 10 years later with the Silver Britannia series in 1997. Today, the Britannia coins are among the premier names in precious metal coinage. A Regal Profile Of Brave Britannia

This year's new, one-year-only reverse design was created by Bradley Morgan Johnson, a British artist and digital sculptor based in Norwich, England, who has also done work for Hasbro and design development for Star Trek Discovery. Johnson's design portrays regal-looking Britannia standing tall with a three-pronged trident in her right hand and a shield in her left as the sun shines brightly over the sea in the background behind her. The Art Nouveau design, based on a statue of Britannia, evokes images of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' famous $20 Gold Double Eagle design from 1907 that depicted Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and olive branch with rays of sun behind her. This is Johnson's 10th design for the Royal Mint. Other works include the designs representing the letters "J" and "Z" for the Great British Alphabet series, and the reverse of the 2020 Elton John £5 coin in The Mint's Music Legends collection. Johnson's design makes for a wonderful pair of coins in Proof and Reverse Proof condition:
