Queen Elizabeth II: A Life Etched In Coins

Celebrate two defining moments in Queen Elizabeth II’s life with this commemorative crown set. The 1953 Coronation Crown, designed by Edgar Fuller and Cecil Thomas, honors her historic ascension with regal arms and equestrian portrait. The 1972 Wedding Crown, featuring Arnold Machin’s portrait, marks the silver wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip with crowned “E & P” initials surrounded by floral emblems.

  • The obverse of this Queen Elizabeth II coronation crown features a majestic design of the Queen on horseback. The reverse shows a crown at the center of a cross formed by a rose, shamrock, leek, and thistle—symbols of the United kingdom. The rose represents England, the shamrock represents Ireland, the leek represents Wales, and the thistle represents Scotland. It also features unique edge lettering with the words, “FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YOU,” a sentiment voiced years earlier by Elizabeth in 1947 while still a princess when she said: “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”
  • In 1972, Great Britian’s Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with Prince Philip, marking a milestone of enduring partnership. The special occasion was commemorated with various royal events, including a special service at Westminster Abbey and a celebratory banquet at Buckingham Palace, attended by dignitaries from around the world. To pay tribute to the Royal Couple’s Silver Anniversary, The Royal Mint struck this special one-year-only crown-size coin that not only commemorated the event but was the first modern (decimal) crown-size commemorative coin!

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, the longest-serving female head of state in world history, and the world’s oldest living monarch when she passed away on September 8, 2022, at age 96. Struck in durable cupro-nickel, these large-format coins unite history, artistry, and royal tradition. Now they can both reign in your collection for years to come!
