1868 Jesse James 3-pc Set VG–F
Jesse James Strikes Again!
In March of 1868, Russellville, Kentucky received a visit from the James-Younger Gang. Riding up to the Nimrod Long Banking Company, the gang counted six in number. Two remained on their horses while the other four strolled inside. Among their number were Jesse James, Frank James and Cole Younger. When Younger asked for change for his $50 bill, the teller refused, telling Younger the bill was counterfeit. In response, Cole, Jesse and Frank drew their weapons, and Younger demanded all the money in the bank. They rode out with somewhere between $9,000 and $12,000 – or between $163,019 and $217,359 in today’s money!
This exciting three-coin set brings together a 2-Cent Piece, 3-Cent Nickel and 5-Cent Shield Nickel, all dated 1868 and of the type that likely would have been in the change drawers of the bank that day when the Wild West’s most notorious outlaw gang pulled off one of its most famous bank robberies. Each coin also comes in Very Good to Fine (VG-F) condition with lots of eye appeal. Condition varies. The entire set comes beautifully housed in a custom card and holder and accompanied by a fact-filled storycard about the robbery.
Jesse and his gang had to ride hundreds of miles on horsebacks, cross rivers and trade lead with angry townspeople to get their hands on these coins. All you have to do is click this three-piece set top your cart. Add a piece of Wild West outlaw history to your collection today!
