Early-Date 1880s New Orleans Morgan Silver Dollars
First struck in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar was one of the workhorse coins of the American Wild West. Struck in 90% silver, they're believed to be the most widely collected and coveted Silver Dollar in U.S. history–perhaps in part because their numbers were dramatically slashed by the Pittman Act of 1918, which called for millions of Morgans to be melted. It's believed that as few as 15% of all Morgans still exist today in any condition.
Vintage Morgans From The New Orleans Mint
And of all the Morgans ever struck, some of the most unique are those struck at the fabled New Orleans Mint, the only U.S. branch mint to be controlled by three different governmental bodies–the State of Louisiana, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America. And now you secure a dazzling three-piece set of vintage Morgan Silver Dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint–the 1883-O, 1884-O, and 1885-O Morgans!
Historic Treasures Of An Untamed Era
These aren't just silver dollars–they're historic treasures of an untamed era. Struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, each one carries U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan's iconic designs of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a Heraldic Eagle on the reverse. These coins were forged from raw bullion hauled in from the legendary Comstock Lode–Nevada's motherlode of riches. The silver traveled by train, steamboat, and wagon before meeting the coining presses of the Deep South. These Morgans are frontier money, struck from the Wild West and pressed into history

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- AMERICA'S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar–so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan–has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America's "Wild West" and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers, and dance hall girls.
- CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan's historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
- STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – These Morgan Silver Dollars were struck at the New Orleans Mint in 90% silver from the famous Comstock Lode. They're also big coins measuring 38.1 mm in diameter.
- LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America's Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
- HIGH-GRADE UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Each coin in your 1883–1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Thee-Piece Set has been certified, graded, and encapsulated the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-64 (MS64) condition!
- SIGNED BY DAVID RYDER – Each coin in your 11-piece set will be sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a label that was personally signed by David J. Ryder, the former 34th and 39th Director of the U.S. Mint who served from 1992 to 1993 and from 2018 to 2021.
- THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence–and fewer still remain in Uncirculated condition!
