100-Year-Old Barber Decades Sets

More than 100 years ago, it wasn’t the Kennedy Half Dollar but the Barber Half Dollar that folks had rattling around in their pockets and coin purses. Struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, these coins were designed by Charles Barber, then-Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Other designs had been submitted — more than 300, in fact — but Barber, as part of a panel of judges, rejected them all in favor of designing the coin himself. The coin features a bust of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse while the reverse shows a heraldic eagle based on the Great Seal of the United States and the “HALF DOLLA.R” denomination.

A Barber Half Dollar From Each Decade It Was Struck

Here you can secure a three-piece “Decades” set of Barbers dated between 1892 and 1915. Wondering what a “Decades” set is? These Barber Half Dollars were struck during the three decades they were issued and each of set includes one coin from each decade, 1892-1899, 1900-1909 and 1910-1915. Plus, each coin comes graded in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition. Dates and mint marks will vary, but every coin is at least 105 years old! Secure yours now!
