50 Cents Fractional Currency Note
With the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, a fearful public began hoarding coins, causing a shortage. As a solution, the U.S. government began printing "fractional" paper currency notes with values under a dollar. Five different "series" of fractional notes were printed from 1862-1876. This 50 Cents Note is from the third series, printed between 1864-1869. The face of this Note has an effigy of General Francis Elias "F.E." Spinner, the Treasurer of the United States from 1861-1875 and the first administrator in the federal government to ever employ women for clerical jobs. The back features the denomination surrounded by a beautiful ornate design. Yours will arrive in Fine to Very Fine (F-VF) condition. We were only able to get a very small supply, so act fast!
