Consecutive Vintage Indian Cents 1889 To 1893
Except for good luck, if you find a penny and pick it up, the coin doesn't buy much these days. But back before the Turn of the Century, one cent went a long way. In fact, for one unlucky criminal in 1894, it bought a stretch in prison. Ellsworth de France was apprehended in Nebraska after he attempted to steal a wheelbarrow containing a shipment of United States mail. The poor schmuck netted only one cent for his troubles and in return he received a life sentence. Poor old Ellsworth was eventually released in 1906 after serving 12 years, a sadder but wiser man.
You don't have pull off a heist and risk jail time to get your hands on one of those iconic copper pennies from the late 1800s. Now you can get a consecutive-date five-year run of 1889–1893 copper Indian Head Cents simply by taking advantage of this fun and affordable opportunity!
A Timeless American Coin Classic
One of the timeless classics of American coinage, the Indian Head Cent first appeared in 1859 and was struck until 1909. From 1864 to 1909, the U.S. Mint struck more than 1.69 billion bronze Indian Head Cents–by comparison, the U.S. Mint struck more than one billion Lincoln cents for circulation in 2018 ALONE! Featuring Liberty in a feathered headdress on the obverse, the coin also depicts a simple laurel wreath around the One Cent denomination on the reverse. Designed by James B. Longacre, the U.S. Mint's 4th chief engraver, the clean, uncluttered design of this coin simply isn't possible on today's coinage due to the inscriptions required on modern coinage. It's an absolute must-have for any American coin collection, and for many of us was the first retired design we collected!
Good To Very Good Condition
This set of five consecutive Indian Head Cents comes in a drawstring pouch and a Certificate of Authenticity.
