1937-S Golden Gate 5-Coin Collection
The Golden Gate Collection
When one thinks of famous cities, what usually comes to mind is a landmark that represents the city. For San Francisco, it’s hard to imagine anyone not thinking of the international orange-colored Golden Gate Bridge. This collection features all five circulating coins struck by the San Francisco Mint in 1937 during the year the iconic bridge was completed.
In 1933, construction began on what would become one of the most impressive and iconic landmarks of the United States of America. Four years later, in May of 1937, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge was officially opened to the public. And just seven miles away, the San Francisco Mint struck a Lincoln Cent, Buffalo Nickel, Mercury Dime, Washington Quarter and Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
We’ve brought these coins together in a fun five-piece set housed in a custom-designed holder celebrating what is likely the most photographed bridge in the world. Each coin comes in Very Good (VG) or better condition and features the “S” mint mark of the San Francisco Mint. Who knows? Perhaps your coins jingled in the pockets of one of the first people to cross the bridge upon its opening!
