The Famous Americans Silver Dollar Commemorative Set

The U.S. Mint has a long history of striking special commemorative Silver Dollars featuring some of the nation’s most prominent figures, places and events. The Famous Americans Commemorative Silver Dollar Set brings together five legal-tender Silver Dollars honoring important Americans:

  • President Dwight D. Eisenhower is honored on the 1990 Eisenhower Centennial Commemorative Silver Dollar issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 34th president’s birth. It features a dual profile of Ike as both president and general on the obverse and his home at Gettysburg on the reverse.
  • The “Architect of Democracy,” President Thomas Jefferson is featured on the 1994 Thomas Jefferson Commemorative Silver Dollar issued to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. Though dual-dated 1743 and 1993, the coin wasn’t released until 1994. Jefferson’s portrait graces the obverse and his home at Monticello is on the reverse.
  • Robert F. Kennedy, who served as Attorney General during his brother John F. Kennedy’s presidency, is honored on the 1998 Robert F. Kennedy Commemorative Silver Dollar issued on the 30th anniversary of his tragic assassination 1968. Kennedy was one of the leading candidates in the 1968 Presidential Election when he was senselessly murdered.
  • Founding Father Benjamin Franklin takes center on the 2006 Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary Commemorative Silver Dollar. Issued to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Franklin’s birth, it depicts Franklin in his later years on the obverse and a design of the 1776 Continental currency dollar design by Franklin on the reverse.
  • One of America’s greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln is celebrated on the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commemorative Silver Dollar issued to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the 16th president’s birth. Lincoln’s is featured on the obverse while the reverse contains a portion of his famous Gettysburg Address.

Each coin in this wonderful collection was struck in highly pure 90% fine silver and comes in original Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. What’s even more amazing is the relative scarcity of these coins – they’re actually two-and-a-half times more scarce than the same commemoratives released in proof condition!
