  • Davy Crockett, The King Of The Wild Frontier - Despite having many real-life adventures as a frontiersman, explorer, pioneer, folk hero, soldier, and politician, the actual David "Davy" Crockett did not discourage the myths and legends that grew up around him. A three-time congressman from Tennessee, he fought with the Tennessee Militia in the Creek War and later reenlisted to fight in the War of 1812. After being defeated for a seat in Congress in 1835, he famously said, "I told the people of my district that I would serve them as faithfully as I had done; but if not, they might go to hell, and I would go to Texas!" It was there that Crockett died, defending the Alamo in the Texas Revolution against Mexico.
  • Doc Holliday, One Of The Old West's Most Fearsome Gunfighters - John Henry Holliday remains one of the most dynamic figures ever to slap leather in the honky-tonk boom towns of the Wild West. Though forever immortalized for his role as a friend and associate of Wyatt Earp in the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona and Earp's subsequent Vendetta Ride, Holliday had achieved fame as a "gentleman gambler years earlier. He was involved in eight known gunfights during his short life and worked on and off on behalf of law enforcement, rubbing elbows with such Western luminaries as Dodge City Marshall "Bat" Masterson, famed gunfighter Johnny Ringo, and fellow Earp associate "Turkey Creek" Jack Johnson.
  • Wyatt Earp, The Wild West's Most Famous Lawman - Though he is most famous for his role in the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, Wyatt Earp was also a saloonkeeper, gambler, gunslinger, and confidence man. Prior to coming to Tombstone, he had worked as an assistant marshal in Dodge City, Kansas, a booming center of the cattle trade that was hailed as the "Wickedest Little City in the West." Earp was the last surviving participant in the OK Corral gunfight, passing away in 1929 at the age of 80 at his home in Los Angeles
  • Buffalo Bill, The Wild West Legend Rides Again - Like no one else, William Frederick Cody embodied the spirit of the West. In fact, it was through his traveling shows that the term "Wild West" was born. In addition to his exciting shows, Buffalo Bill gained a level of fame that could be compared to that of Elvis Presley of the 1950s, The Beatles of the 1960s, and Michael Jackson of the 1980s. The media of the era in the form of dime novels and magazines combined with his genius for marketing and advertising effectively exploited the myths about Buffalo Bill and his version of the Wild West making him arguably the most famous man in the world during his lifetime.
  • Jesse James, The Wild West's Most Famous Outlaw - Most active from 1866 to 1876 in the years following the Civil War, Jesse and the James-Younger cut a violent swath across the Midwest before they ventured a little too far north in 1876 and unsuccessfully tried to rob the First National Bank in Northfield, Minnesota. Jesse and Frank managed to slip away while the rest of the gang was either captured or killed. Making sporadic robberies in the aftermath of the failed Northfield robbery, Jesse was finally gunned down by "The Coward" Bob Ford, a new recruit to the gang, while he was standing on a chair in his home straightening a picture.
