The Last Years of the Lincoln Wheat Cents

The Lincoln Cent is one of the most popular and recognizable coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint, and for many of us, it’s the coin that opened our eyes to the world of coin collecting when we found our very first Wheatback Cent. Struck from 1909 to 1958, these Lincoln Cents feature a pair of wheat stalks on the reverse instead of the Lincoln Memorial that replaced it in 1959 — a long-running design that was replaced in 2008 by today’s Shield reverse design. If you ever manage to find a vintage Wheatback Cent in your pocket change, it’s truly a cause for celebration!

This set of six Wheatback Cents not only gives you the chance to some of these poplar “Wheaties,” it also features the final dates struck at the San Francisco Mint from 1950-1955, making them the only “S” Mint Wheatback Cents of the 1950s! Perhaps the finest “Wheaties” ever struck are those from the U.S. branch mint in San Francisco. In addition to their sharp strikes, San Francisco Wheatbacks are hotly sought-after items due to their scarcity as the San Francisco Mint struck just 11% of all Wheatback Cents.

Each coin in this 1950–1955-S Lincoln Wheatback Cent Six-Piece Set comes in nice Extremely Fine (XF) condition and the entire set will come housed in an 3" x 5" custom display card protected by a clear rectangular case. Enjoy the San Francisco Mint’s last serving of Wheaties with this fantastic set. Order one for yourself or for any new collector just entering the hobby.
