Secure the First Six Modern Commemorative Half Dollar Proofs

After nearly a 30-year hiatus, the United States Mint unveiled its new modern commemorative program in 1982, picking back up from where it left off in 1954. The program has been a resounding success – so much so that the Mint has struck a modern commemorative every year since – usually in denominations of a half dollar, silver dollar and a $5 gold half eagle.

Wouldn’t it be great to step back in time and snag the first releases in the series? Well, now you can! That’s because despite not having access to an H.G. Wells time machine, we’ve somehow managed to assemble a small number of collections featuring the first six commemorative half dollars released in the Mint’s modern program. Issued between 1982 and 1992, each was struck at the U.S Mint’s world-renowned branch mint in San Francisco and comes in gorgeous Proof condition with mirrored fields that immediately catch the eye.

Just look at this line-up representing some of the most iconic people and events in American history:

1982-S Washington Half Dollar – This coin was struck to commemorate the 250th anniversary of George Washington’s birth. This is the only commemorative half dollar struck in 90% silver.

1986-S Statue of Liberty Half Dollar – Struck in honor of the Statue of Liberty’s 100th anniversary, a portion of the funds raised through the sale of this coin helped renovation efforts of the iconic statue.

1989-S Congress – Issued in honor of the bicentennial of Congress, it features a detailed bust of the Statue of Freedom that sits atop the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

1991-S Mount Rushmore – Released on the 50th anniversary of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota, it features the iconic sculpture on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse.

1992-S Olympics – Struck to commemorate the 1992 Olympics, it features a gymnast in motion on the obverse and an olive branch and a torch on the reverse.

1992-S Columbus – Representing four centuries of history, this coin was released to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovering America.

Each come comes encapsulated in its own round acrylic holder and the entire collection will come beautifully housed in a deluxe presentation case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Start, add to, or complete your set of commemorative half dollars today!
