Representatives from the Seneca and Mohawk tribes met in one house and representatives from the Oneida and Cayuga tribes met in the other. Because of the sophisticated structure of their society, the Iroquois proved to be a tough foe facing settlers attempting to carve out a new life in early America. One of the tribe’s greatest admirers was none other than Benjamin Franklin, and some historians even believe that some aspects of the Constitution are based on Iroquois ideas!
