Spectacular Seven-Piece Collection Of Morgan Silver Dollars From The Carson City Mint!

Morgan Silver Dollars are the most-collected vintage silver dollar, and the ones collectors vie for most are from the Carson City Mint. That's because "CC" Morgans are the scarcest. In the late 1850s, a rich vein of silver was discovered in Nevada–the Comstock Lode–which became the greatest source of silver ever discovered in the United States and led to the government opening a branch mint in Carson City in 1870. The mint only struck silver and gold coins during its brief existence and struck Morgans only from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1890-1893–a mere 13 years. As a result, only 13.8 million Morgans were struck with the iconic  "CC" mint mark–a mere 2% of the total of all Morgans ever struck!

This seven-piece set includes Morgan Silver Dollars struck during that first go-around from 1878 to 1885. It includes:

  • 1878-CC – the FIRST year of issue, 2,212,000 struck.
  • 1880-CC – a small mintage of only 591,000.
  • 1881-CC – from the second lowest mintage, only 296,000 struck.
  • 1882-CC – 1,133,000 struck (the same year Philadelphia struck 11.1 million).
  • 1883-CC – 1,204,000 struck (the same year Philadelphia struck 12.29 million).
  • 1884-CC – 1,1136,000 struck (the same year Philadelphia struck 14.07 million).
  • 1885-CC – the lowest mintage, just 228,000 struck.

Morgans Still In Sealed In GSA Holders!

Even better, each of these coins hails from the famous General Services Administration (GSA) Hoard. In 1962, the United States Treasury found a mother lode of mint-fresh bags of Morgan Silver Dollars from the fabled Carson City Mint. In an effort to make these spectacular Carson City Morgans available to all Americans, the GSA held a series of sales between 1972 and 1980. Each coin was sealed into a large black GSA holder. Today, many collectors believe these holders were the inspiration for today's "slab." Over the years, most of these GSA CC Morgans have been removed from their original holders.

Choice Uncirculated Morgans Along With Loads Of Extras!

Each coin in this set has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in matching Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition. Plus, the set comes with a storybook on the Carson City Mint, an authentic 1886 Carson City Bullion & Exchange Bank Check, and a reprint of the original 1970s GSA brochure! Don't miss your chance to own this historic "Time Capsule" that still echoes with the memories of America's silver-soaked frontier!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMERICA'S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar–so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan–has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America's "Wild West" and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers, and dance hall girls.
  • COINS COME HOUSED IN FAMOUS GSA HOLDERS – All of the Morgan Silver Dollars sold by the General Services Administration (GSA) between 1972 and 1980 came housed in a distinctive black holder. While those holders have served as the inspiration for today's coin "slabs," many of the Morgans that were part of the original sales have been removed, making those still in their holders that much scarcer and harder to find.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan's historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver from the famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin measuring 38.1 mm in diameter. When this coin was plunked down on a counter, its weight meant real money, pure and simple.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America's Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
  • CHOICE UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Each coin in your 1878–1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Seven-Piece GSA Set has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence–and Morgans struck at the Carson City Mint represent just 2% of the total mintage!
