1941–1947 Walking Liberty Half Dollar 7-pc Set NGC MS65 w/Mercanti Signature
The Last Seven Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars Minted In Philadelphia
2022 is the 75th anniversary of the last classic Walking Liberty Half Dollar rolling off the presses in 1947. But even without that extra impetus, this is a coin that is much revered by collectors, with many viewing it as the ultimate triumph of coin design from the Renaissance period of American numismatics. What you have here is a seven-piece set of Walking Liberty Half Dollars struck at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia consisting of the final seven years the coin was struck from 1941 to 1947.
Adolph Weinman’s Iconic Walking Liberty design
Struck in 90% fine silver, these coins are affectionately known to many collectors as “Walkers.” With its iconic images, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar is surely one of the most beautiful coins ever struck by the United States Mint. Lady Liberty is shown striding towards the sun, her right hand open and outstretched as if in invitation. In her left arm is a bouquet of olive branches. The coin’s reverse depicts a stylistic eagle standing on a rock ready to take flight. A mountain pine sapling springs from the rock, symbolizing America. Famously designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the Walking Liberty is so iconic and beloved that it was resurrected in 1986 as the obverse for today’s Silver Eagles!
Certified, Graded, And Encapsulated In Gem Uncirculated Condition
This patriotic design always proved difficult to strike, meaning that finding these coins in nice condition can be difficult. But not only have we put together a set of the last seven years of this classic American coin, but it’s been certified, graded, and encapsulated by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in gorgeous Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 (MS65) condition! Even at more than 75 years old, the mint luster still pops off these coins! The seven Walkers in this as follows:

- 1942-P
- 1943-P
- 1944-P
- 1945-P

Signed, Sealed And Delivered
What’s more, each coin has been sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a label personally signed by the legendary John Mercanti! A giant in the coin world, Mercanti served as the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver and has produced more coin and medal designs than any person in U.S. Mint history! When the Mint selected Weinman’s Walking Liberty as the obverse for its new Silver Eagle coins, it tapped Mercanti to design the reverse. The end result was Mercanti’s masterpiece, the “Heraldic Eagle” design that graced the American Silver Eagle for the next 35 years until it was replaced by the Type 2 reverse design in July of 2021.
