The Most Popular Tanks of WWII Together in One Glorious Set

It was the British that invented the first tank for use in the First World War, followed closely by the French. Those first tanks were unreliable and moved at a walking pace. By World War II, tanks became a significant factor and featured in some critical battles. Now you can pay tribute with this spectacular seven-piece set of cold enamel medals commemorating the most famous tanks of WWII. These hulking battlefield monsters include:

  • M4 SHERMAN. The American M4 Sherman medium tank was a war-winner for the Allies due to its streamlined production and many variations. By the time the war ended in 1945, more than 40,000 Shermans had been built. Though outgunned by German tanks, the Sherman’s sheer numbers, and hardiness overwhelmed enemy armored forces.
  • TIGER I. Probably the most famous tank of World War II, Germany’s Tiger I heavy tank was a superior tank nearly unmatched on the battlefield. Unfortunately for the German Wehrmacht, it was difficult to produce in large numbers and just 1,350 were assembled before production ceased in 1944.
  • T-34. The Soviet Union’s T-34 medium tank proved to be a nasty surprise to German forces when they opened the Eastern front in 1941. Perhaps the most decisive tank of the war, this durable red Army tank’s rough-and-ready design belied its effectiveness. Muck like the American Sherman Tank, its numbers were able to overwhelm superior German tanks.
  • PANTHER V. Designed to combat the Soviet T-34 tank, Germany’s Panzer V (Panther) was one of the finest tanks of World War II. Its first appearance during the Battle of Kursk was met was disaster, however, as the lack of proper testing helped thwart the German advance. Of the 184 Panthers that began the battle on July 5, 1943, just 40 were in operation two days later.
  • M26 PERSHING. America’s answer to Germany’s Tiger Tank, the M-26 Pershing heavy tank entered the war much too late to make a significant impact. However, it was met with great enthusiasm and proved highly effective in combat. Based on the criteria of firepower, mobility, and protection, the Pershing behind only Germany’s King Tiger II.
  • TIGER II (KING TIGER). With armor almost impenetrable to most Allied weapons, Germany’s King Tiger heavy tank was the most fearsome weapon deployed on the battlefields of WWII — at least when operating a peak efficiency. Unreliable and prone to break downs, many were abandoned by their crews when they broke down or ran out of fuel.
  • A34 COMET. Introduced in the later years of the war Great Britain’s Comet cruiser tank proved to be a vital weapon during the invasion of Germany. Its high-velocity 77 mm gun proved its worth against late-war German tanks like the Panther and Tiger where it was highly effective even at medium range.
