Ancient Greek 110/109 B.C. Greek Silver Shekel of Tyre NGC AU
One of Only Two! Extremely Rare Ancient Shekel of Tyre
The Shekel of Tyre coin is the coin that is most mentioned in the Bible -- the main silver coin used in Judea during the time of the Temple and the New Testament. It is the coin that is linked to all the New Testament stories, including the "30 pieces of silver" -- the coin Jesus took from the mouth of the fish, and is the only coin that was officially recognized for paying the annual Half Shekel Tithe.
This coin is an incredible example of the Greek Silver Shekel, minted in Tyre. An extremely rare variety of an extremely rare year, it is one of only two known to exist. Struck sometime in 110/109 B.C., this coin is graded by NGC as About Uncirculated (AU) condition with a Strike 5/5 and a Surface 4/5.
Secure this Shekel and you'll also receive a copy of Dated Coins of Antiquity -- Shekels of Tyre.
