Jesse and Frank managed to slip away while the rest of the gang was either captured or killed. Making sporadic robberies in the aftermath of the failed Northfield robbery, Jesse was finally gunned down by "The Coward" Bob Ford, a new recruit to the gang, while he was standing on a chair in his home straightening a picture.
