2021 American Gold Eagle Proof with New Reverse Designs
Augustus Saint-Gaudens's famous Double Eagle design will remain in place on the obverse. Liberty stands at the center, striking a confident pose as she faces the holder. She holds her torch, a beacon of freedom, in her right hand and an olive branch, a traditional symbol of peace, in her left hand. She appears larger than life thanks to the Capitol Dome's miniature rendering in the lower left and the rays of the rising sun, which spread out behind her. Fifty stars represent the states along the rim. "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top, and the date is included on the right.
A design by Jeannie Norris replaces Miley Busiek's reverse design. The new design centers around a closeup look at the head of an eagle, which appears determined. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed on the top half of the rim, while inscriptions on the bottom half note the coin's face value and weight. Above the bird's head are the two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST.
