2021-W Burnished Silver Eagle Designs
The obverse will bear the Walking Liberty design that Adolph Weinman created for the half dollar. An American flag-draped Liberty carries laurel and oak branches as the morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon. The figure's name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as are the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." The Type-2 design notably features Adolph Weinman's artist initials, "AW" for the first time in the series.
Emily Damstra, a member of the United States Mint's Artistic Infusion Program (AIP), designed, and Michael Gaudioso, a Mint employee, sculpted the new reverse design. An eagle carries an oak branch while spreading its wings to its side. Inscriptions along the rim are arranged differently than on the original coin but consist of the same information. They read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER." Just inside the inscription of the coin's weight is the statutory motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
The Type-2 design also includes an brand new security feature, a reeded edge gap to avoid counterfeiting.
