The Tuskegee Airmen were some of the best known and most highly acclaimed examples of African Americans who served in the United States military. They were bombardiers, navigators, and pilots who trained at sites near the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. This final edition of the America the Beautiful Series honors those brave Americans by featuring the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. The coin is to be struck from 5 oz of .999 fine silver. Both Brilliant Uncirculated and Specimen finishes of the hefty 5 oz. coin will be issued.

History of the Series

The America the Beautiful Series began in 2010. Since then, it has taken collectors around the United States and its territories through scenes from national parks. Each coin in the series features natural beauty and/or a site of historical significance. The series draws to a close with this fifty-sixth edition- the final 5 oz. Silver America the Beautiful Quarter.

2021 5 oz Silver America the Beautiful Tuskegee Airmen Designs

This coin shares a common obverse with other issues in the America the Beautiful Series. John Flanagan’s portrait of President George Washington, which has featured on American quarters since 1932, is at the center of the obverse. “LIBERTY” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” are inscribed to the left and right of it, respectively. The name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the coin’s face value, “QUARTER DOLLAR,” are included along the rim.

On the reverse, a Tuskegee Airman snaps on his flight cap. Two P-51 Mustangs fly in the background. “THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS” is inscribed at the top of the design. Like other ATB issues, this face has a rim frame that bears four inscriptions. Among them are the name of the featured park, “TUSKEGEE AIRMEN,” and the name of the state in which it is located, “ALABAMA.” The other two inscriptions note the date, “2021,” and the second statutory motto, “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
