The United States Air Force is one of the six branches of the United States Armed Forces. It began as the Aeronautical Division of the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1907 and has been an independent service since 1947. The U.S. Air Force is among the most potent military institutions globally, often carrying out precisions missions that would not be possible for the other branches. The Air Force is also responsible for surveillance and reconnaissance.

This medal, which is set to be struck from 2.5 oz of .999 fine silver, is a fantastic choice for collectors who honor the service of those in the U.S. Armed Forces.

History of the Armed Forces Silver Medal Series

This U.S. Air Force Silver Medal is one of two issues set to begin the United States Mint’s Armed Forces Medal Series. The series sets out to honor the U.S. military branches and the men and women who serve in them. With just six branches of the military, this series will not last long. It is perfect for collectors who like the opportunity to complete a series in a relatively short period of time.

U.S. Air Force Silver Medal Designs

The designs for this medal have not yet been announced. The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), however, made identical recommendations for the obverse design. That design features a pilot in flight in the foreground and two additional jets in the background. The two organizations made different recommendations for the reverse.

More information about the design and images will be added to this page when they are available. Keep checking back for more details!
