Dazzling Tribute To The Famous Lion Coins Of Ancient Leontini
Located in Sicily, the ancient Greek city of Leontini was founded in 730 BC by colonists from Naxos. The name of the city is the Greek word for "lion" (léÅn), a name derived from the land upon which the city was located–a hilly area that was thought to resemble a lion. The city played a significant role in Sicilian history, experiencing periods of independence, tyranny, and conflict. Leontini was also widely known for its silver tetradrachms, particularly those featuring a lion's head on the obverse and the head of Apollo on the reverse–symbolic of divine protection and military strength. These coins are highly valued by collectors today due to their historical significance and artistic quality. Now that lion's head symbol has been transformed into the sixth release in the Numismatic Icons Series.
Struck Using Big Gold Minting Technology
The design shows a faithful reproduction of the famous Lion. To the lower right is a grain of barley–symbolizing the prosperity and fertility of the region–and the letters "CI" that stand for the Cook Islands. The letters were added to follow the tradition of ancient Greek coinage to indicate the place of the coin's origin. Struck in a half gram of 99.99% pure gold using Coin Invest Trust's (CIT) Big Gold Minting© (BGM) technology that allows tiny amounts of gold to be struck into relatively large sizes, the coin is an example of the best modern technology has to offer. Despite the challenges that would typically accompany the use of the thin planchets used to produce this type of coin, this BGM minted treasure displays excellent quality, with clean shapes, and sharp designs.
Hurry: Small Edition Could Disappear Quickly
Released on behalf of the Cook Islands, a self-governing island nation in free association with New Zealand, this legal-tender $5 coin will come with what CIT calls a Silk Finish. Visually similar to a burnished finish, a silk finish provides a soft, satin effect on the coin's surface and helps diffuse light shining on it rather than just simply reflecting it. Just 5,000 of these 2025 Cook Islands $5 Half-Gram Gold Numismatic Icons: Lion Coins have been struck for worldwide release, and each will be beautifully displayed in its original mint capsule with a specialized insert that holds it securely in place. This extremely small mintage could be gone before you know it. So don't get left out; secure your coin today!
