Here’s Your Chance to Own 108-Year-Old Cuban Gold Pesos
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint!
Over a century-old Cuban Coins? Struck by a U.S. Mint? Even though the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia struck these Gold Pesos for Cuba for two years in 1915 and 1916, these coins are considered U.S. vintage coins because the 5, 10 and 20 Gold Pesos were struck on $5 Indian, $10 Indian and $20 Saint-Gaudens gold planchets. Had there been no connection to Cuba, these coins would have been struck with their classic U.S. designs.
From a Huge Hoard!
Because we are a company that sells many U.S. gold coins to our collectors, and thanks to this hoard’s heavy ties to U.S. vintage gold coins, we were offered first right of refusal for this large hoard of Cuban Gold Pesos that recently came to market— consisting of about 4,000 total Cuban coins. We didn’t hesitate.
We don't know where this hoard originated, or where it has been freshly stored for the better part of 12 decades. That’s part of the mystery and allure of this hoard.
Struck in 90% Gold
Each of these Cuban Pesos was struck in 90% Gold on U.S. vintage gold planchets.
Designed by the 6th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint Charles Barber
These Pesos were designed by Charles Barber, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint at the time. They were a symbol of Cuba’s emerging economic identity and a testament to the country’s historical ties with the United States. The design of Cuban Pesos is a true reflection of its rich heritage. On the obverse, the coin proudly features a right-profile bust of Jose Marti, a significant figure in Cuban history. The reverse features the Cuban coat of arms which represents the national pride and sovereignty of Cuba.
PCGS-Certified as MS63 or MS64
PCGS has authenticated and certified each of these gold Cuban Pesos with highly sought-after Mint State-63 (MS63) or Mint State-64 (MS64) grades.
Very Limited Availability
This is an extremely limited opportunity to get these Cuban Gold Pesos, struck by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia on U.S. gold planchets! These Gold Pesos were struck for Cuba for just two years, and feature small mintages that are just a fraction of the mintages of their U.S. counterparts—which adds to their scarcity and allure.
