All Hail the White Horse of Hanover, the Eighth Release in the Queen’s Beasts Series

When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II received her crown on June 2, 1953, ten symbolic creatures, each representing a part of her centuries-long royal lineage, stood guard outside the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey. One of those six-foot-tall sculptures standing in silent deference was the White Horse of Hanover, a fearsome creature that is also the latest release in The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts series.

The eighth coin in the popular series, this White Horse of Hanover Proof bears a legal-tender denomination of £10 (ten pounds) and is struck in ten ounces of highly pure 99.9% fine silver. Expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, the symbolic coin depicts the majestic equine triumphantly rearing over a shield as if in a full gallop. The powerful stallion is depicted with the Royal Arms of George I, which includes three quarters that represent his sovereignty as King of Great Britain, France and Ireland while the fourth has the arms of Hanover.

Your Queen’s Beasts White Horse of Hanover Proof has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) in flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition, a distinction that means your perfectly-graded proof will have ZERO imperfections – showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has certified that your proof is “One of First 45 Struck.”

White horses have been a sign of purity and nobility for more than 2,500 years. It’s believed that the use of a white horse in heraldry dates back to the 1360s when a German duke used it on his seal as a symbol of speed, intellect and virility. Thus, the beast came to British soil in1714 following the death of Queen Anne, last of the Stuarts. Succeeding her was George I of the House of Hanover, who brought with him the heraldry of his region – a white horse on a red background. The House of Hanover is a German royal house that ruled Hanover, Great Britain, and Ireland from the 17th through 20th centuries. George V renamed Great Britain’s Royal House to Windsor in 1917 as anti-German sentiment reached a boiling point during World War I.

The White Horse of Hanover appeared on the Royal Coat of Arms through the reigns of Georges I, II and II. When Queen Victoria ascended to the throne it ended the personal union between the United Kingdom and Hanover and the horse was removed. This wonderful coin revives that exciting herald in a breathtaking way that is the equal to each entry in the incredibly popular Queen’s Beasts series that has come before it. Between the expected demand by both coin collectors and silver stackers, we don’t expect the low worldwide limited mintage of just 235 ten-ounce silver proofs to last long. Don’t miss out; reserve this magnificent perfectly graded proof coin for your collection today!
