Meet The Daughters Of Zeus, The Three Graces
This is the second release of “The Great Engravers” series from Great Britain’s world-renowned Royal Mint celebrating its history of talented creators and features one of the world’s most sought-after designs — the Three Graces by William Wyon, who was a Second Engraver at the Royal Mint from 1817 to 1828, and chief Engraver until his death in 1851. Like the first release of the Great Engravers series, this release quickly sold out at the mint!
England, Scotland & Ireland Imagined As Greek Goddesses
First struck in 1817, William Wyon’s Three Graces design ostensibly showcases the daughters of Zeus from Greek mythology, personified as elegance, mirth, and youth and beauty. But the design is also recognized as representing female allegories of England, Scotland and Ireland standing together to celebrate the unity of these nations after the Act of Union in 1801. The motto “foedus inviolabile” translates to “unbreakable pact.” Using a digital scan of the original Three Graces pattern held in The Royal Mint’s archives, the talented craftsmen at the mint enhanced the original’s detail and removed the blemishes of time to create a piece of incredibly beauty and quality. The coin’s obverse features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by former Royal Mint designer Jody Clark.
Nearly Flawless Proofs From Among The First Released
Struck in two kilograms of highly pure 99.99% silver, these £1000 legal-tender coins come in spectacular Proof condition, meaning they were expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields. In fact, each coin available here has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in near-perfect Proof-69 Ultra Cameo (PF69UC) condition, a distinction that means these almost-flawless proofs showcase impressive full strikes and indistinguishable imperfections — well above and beyond the quality of the vast majority of coins in the series.
In addition, NGC has certified that each 2020 Great Britain £1000 Two-Kilo Silver Three Graces Proof here is a First Releases (FR) coin, a designation that means they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within the first 30 days of their release. Collectors seek out these coins because they are produced with new dies and considered to have sharper strikes and deeper mirrors than those that are struck later. Each will come sonically sealed in an acrylic holder and accompanied by its original mint packaging that consists of a wooden presentation case embossed with the Royal Mint logo and a mint-issued Certificate of Authenticity.
