Johnson's design portrays regal-looking Britannia standing tall with a three-pronged trident in her right hand and a shield in her left as the sun shines brightly over the sea in the background behind her. The Art Nouveau design, based on a statue of Britannia, evokes images of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' famous $20 Gold Double Eagle design from 1907 that depicted Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and olive branch with rays of sun behind her. This is Johnson's 10th design for the Royal Mint. Other works include the designs representing the letters "J" and "Z" for the Great British Alphabet series, and the reverse of the 2020 Elton John £5 coin in The Mint's Music Legends collection.
