2020-W $50 1-oz Gold Eagle V75 NGC PF70UC First Day of Issue w/Black Core & Mercanti Signature
First-Ever Privy Mark Gold Eagles Celebrate 75 Years of Peace
2020 marked the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. To celebrate this important anniversary, the United States Mint issued the first-ever Gold Eagles to feature a privy mark! And in this offer, you can get $50 Gold Eagle struck in a full ounce of highly pure 91.7% fine gold!
The addition of the privy mark has thrust this Gold Eagle to the forefront of modern, key-date coins. You’ll find the mark on the right side of the coin’s obverse design, where you’ll see the letter “V” for “victory” along with the number 75. The mark is set in the shape of the Rainbow Pool in Washington, D.C. — a part of the World War II memorial.
Final Full Year of “Family of Eagles” Design
What’s also important to note is that the U.S. Mint has announced that the reverse of the Gold Eagle will be replaced in 2021, bringing an end to Miley Busiek’s “Family of Eagles” design. “Firsts” and “Lasts” are major parts of any collection, and these “last year of design” coins are sure to become key Gold Eagle dates. Given the popularity of the series — it is widely considered the world’s most collected bullion coin by far — these changes are sure to generate shockwaves throughout the numismatic world and are likely to make issues both new and old even more appealing to collectors and stackers alike.
Flawless, First Day of Issue Certification
Mintages for this release is exceptionally low — and even fewer are available like the ones available in this offer graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition, a distinction that means your perfectly-graded proof will have ZERO imperfections — showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. What’s more, NGC has certified that these special First-Ever Privy Mark Gold Eagles are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, a designation that means they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date.
Personally Signed by the Great John Mercanti
To top it off, each coin has been sonically sealed in an acrylic holder with a unique black display core and encapsulated with a label personally signed by the legendary John M. Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver! A giant in the numismatic world, Mercanti has produced more coin and medal designs than any person in U.S. Mint history!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- FIRST-EVER PRIVY MARKED GOLD EAGLE – This coin is the first-ever Gold Eagle to feature a privy mark. The mark is a “V” for “victory” along with the number 75 set in the shape of the Rainbow Pool in Washington, D.C.
- THE ULTIMATE SAINT-GAUDENS CREATION . . .—These One-Ounce Gold Eagles exhibit a stunning design of Lady Liberty walking forward with focus and purpose, torch in one hand and olive branch in the other. Originally introduced on the famous 1907 $20 Double Eagle and born from collaboration between Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Theodore Roosevelt, this design reveals beautifully intricate details (like the U.S. Capitol building in the distance) with each viewing.
- . . . PAIRED WITH A PATRIOTIC FAMILY! – Featuring a male bald eagle carrying an olive branch to his family, sculptor Miley Busiek’s design for the reverse serves as a perfect modern companion to Saint-Gaudens’ vision. Her design will be replaced by a new design in 2021.
- EXPERTLY STRUCK IN HIGHLY PURE GOLD – The craftspeople of the U.S. Mint are known around the world for their skill and attention to detail. It’s this talent that transforms each one-ounce planchet of 91.67% fine gold into a breathtaking work of numismatic art.
- U.S. LEGAL TENDER – Minted in gold mined in the United States with weight and content guaranteed by the U.S. government, each 2020 One-Ounce Gold Eagle coin is fifty dollars U.S. legal tender, as seen on the coin’s reverse.
- PERFECT PROOF CONDITION – Your 2020 One-Ounce Gold Eagle has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) in perfect Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition.
- KEY FIRST DAY OF ISSUE CERTIFICATION – NGC has certified that your 2020 One-Ounce Gold Eagle is a First Day of Issue (FDI) coin, independent authentication that your coin was released by the mint during the premier day of the series’ issue.
- SIGNED BY A LEGEND IN THE COIN WORLD – Your coin will come in an acrylic holder with a black display core and encapsulated with an exclusive label signed by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
