Liberty & Britannia: The Strength Of The Free World
The relationship between the United States and Great Britain was perhaps best summed up by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill after meeting with American President Franklin Roosevelt during the early days of World War II when he said that the strength of the partnership between the two nations was the strength of the free world. That strength is clearly in evidence on a series of new coins and medals produced in collaboration by the U.S. Mint and the Royal Mint that features allegorical figures of Liberty and Britannia. It's just the second time the two mints have collaborated on a coin project and the first time that the chief engravers of both mints have worked together to produce a single design!
A Clever Juxtaposition Of Two Allegorical Figures
The design features a clever juxtaposition of the two allegorical figures representing each country–Lady Liberty as designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph F. Menna and Britannia designed by Gordon Summer, the Chief Engraver of the Royal Mint. Presented as complementary and balancing elements reminiscent of the faces on a playing card, Liberty is depicted with stars twinkling stars shining in her loose flowing hair while Britannia is shown wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back to reveal her lovely face and luxurious hair. Each figure also holds her respective symbol: Britannia her trident, and Liberty her torch.
Flawless Proofs From Among The First Issued
Each mint struck this design on the reverse side of its coins and medals with the British version's obverse featuring the portrait of King Charles III and the American's obverse version–also designed by Joseph Menna–depicting a bristlecone pine on the left with an English yew tree on the right. They are separated by the Atlantic Ocean with a sun rising above it, heralding new possibilities for both nations. Here you can secure the Royal Mint's version struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver. This fabulous £2 (two pounds) legal tender coin also comes graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo (PF70UC) condition, a distinction that means your perfectly-graded proof will have ZERO imperfections–showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has certified that this proof is a First Day of Issue (FDI) coin, a designation that means your coin was received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date.
Signed By A Trio Of Coin Titans
Each coin will also come sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a label signed by signed by Gordon Summers, Martin Jennings, and David Ryder. Summers and Jennings signed the front of the label while Ryder, the former 34th and 39th Director of the U.S. Mint who served from 1992 to 1993 and from 2018 to 2021, signed the back. Ryder was named by Coin World as one of its "Most Influential People in Numismatics" and it was under his tenure that The Mint began its collaboration efforts with mints from around the world.
